Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ (Mark 8:27-30)
In the passage, Jesus and his disciples are in the region of Caesarea Philippi, and Jesus asks them, "Who do people say that I am?" The disciples respond, saying that some people think he is John the Baptist, others think he is Elijah, and still others think he is one of the prophets. Then Jesus asks his disciples directly, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answers, "You are the Christ." Jesus then orders them not to tell anyone about him.
The passage is significant because it marks a turning point in Jesus' ministry. Up until this point, Jesus has been performing miracles and preaching about the Kingdom of God, but he has been somewhat elusive about his identity. In this passage, Peter's confession marks the first time that Jesus' disciples openly acknowledge him as the Christ or the Messiah.
The following story starts to unfold in a different matter, such as the omission of the miracles that were previously quite dominant.
