In John 17, Jesus prays to the Father, asking for glory, but not for Himself. His request is for the Father to glorify Him by the coming sacrifice on the cross, where He will be "lifted up" to accomplish salvation. Jesus prays for His disciples, asking for their protection, sanctification, and unity in truth. He prays for all future believers, that they may experience the same unity and love that He shares with the Father. The ultimate goal of Jesus’ prayer is that all believers may be one with Him and the Father, sharing in the eternal glory and love of God.
