GGD Verb 2 - Present Active Indicative of φιλέω
English Conjugation of φιλέω in Present Active Indicative.
φιλέω belongs to a group of verbs called -εω verbs and conjugate like λύω, but the weak -ε at the end of the stem (φιλε-) combine with the vowel of the ending (example φιλε- + ετε = φιλειτε). This combining of vowels is called contraction. Therefore these verbs are also called 'contract verbs'.
The rules for contractions are:
- ε + ε --> ει
- ε + ο --> ου
- ε + long vowels or diphtongs --> the ε disappears (the ε is absorbed)

-εω verbs are always listed in dictionaries in their uncontracted form, but will never be found uncontracted in actual Greek. When used it will be contracted (φιλω instead of φιλεω).
